Frank Newman

Frank Newman has served as Undersecretary and Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Treasury, where he was awarded the Alexander Hamilton Award, the Department’s highest honor.

His career has also included roles as Chairman and CEO of Shenzhen Development Bank, China; Chairman and CEO of Bankers Trust, an international bank based in New York; and CFO of Bank of America and of Wells Fargo Bank. He currently serves as Chairman – China for Promontory Financial Group, and also teaches topics in economics and finance at the PBC Graduate School of Finance, Tsinghua University, Beijing.

Mr. Newman has written two books: Six Myths that Hold Back America: And What America Can Learn from the Growth of China’s Economy (2011), and Freedom from National Debt (2012). He has also written several papers on economic matters, including recently “Why China can Continue Strong Growth”. Much of his work focuses on dispelling common misunderstanding of financial systems, including “national debt” and “money”.

Mr. Newman has served as a director for major public companies in the US, UK, and China. He earned his BA, magna cum laude in economics, at Harvard.
